There are many great toy shops in and around Tokyo, and after years of traveling and searching, I have a guide to some of the best around together.

Hakuhinkan Toy Park - Tokyo

Location: Ginza, Tokyo
Nearest stations: Shimbashi or Ginza (approximately 4 min walk)

Hakuhinkan was one of the first Toy shops I visited in Tokyo, as is mentioned in almost all the leadership of the books. It is not the best toy store, but it's worth a visit. On the ground floor a nice selection of novelty products, and strange devices, and these are is where I spend most of my time trying to tend. The rest of the soils contain a good Selection of Japanese and western toys so if you're just looking to pick you up Get a little toy for your friends and family this is a good place to visit.

Yamashiroya

Location: Ueno, Tokyo
Nearest Station: Ueno

Now this is really a big deal, is Yamashiroya on many levels there is absolutely full of toys, games and gadgets to distribute, you name it, it's here somewhere. It contains wide variety of both Japanese and western toys, with a nice selection of Transformers and Star Wars. It is very difficult in this business, without getting any money, even if we are only in the machines that are outside Gashapon.

A strange rule in this shop is that you get for your items on the floor, they found themselves on pay as you move to spend your money, you end up with more and more Pockets of having purchased from you on the floor.

Monster Japan

Location: Ebisu, Tokyo
Nearest station: Ebisu

Monster Japan is a small shop hidden away on the upper floors of the building in Ebisu, Tokyo, and specializes in the American toy and imports. Even if all the toys are imports you still find a bargain, especially if the exchange rate is good. They have good coverage of Star Wars, Transformers, GIJoe and toys from the latest movies.

Kinderland

Location: Harajuku, Tokyo
Nearest stations: Meijijingumae, Harajuku

Let's not be fooled by the name of you, Kiddy Land not just for kids, although you will find it a really busy place. Spread over seven floors, this is a fantastic toy store for all.

On each Floor has a different set of toys available from all over the world. They have the largest collection of Snoopy and Peanuts toys I think I've ever seen, and a large selection of some of the many cute and cuddly characters from Japan's biggest anime cartoons.

Kiddy Land is a store chain with branches in other Places in Japan.

Astro Mike

Location: Harajuku, Tokyo
Nearest stations: Meijijingumae, Harajuku

Astro Mike is a small toy store hidden away in the back streets of Harajuku, Tokyo. Although it is only a few square meters is packed floor to ceiling with toys of all kinds. By Smurfs to Star Wars it's pretty much anything goes. The staff were always very friendly and helpful, it also is worth a visit, and it is only a short walk from Kiddy Land.

Akihabara

Location: Akihabara, Tokyo
Nearest station: Akihabara

Although Akihabara is best known for being sold the electric city all known electronics and gadgets, it's also a great place for the toy collector.

Once you exit Akihabara Station is surrounded by large and small shops selling gadgets galore. But between them you will find a plethora of toy stores to be found. Animate have a big business here, but most small independent shops that come and go. Every time we visited, there were different stores can be found. This is also the best Place to find Gashapon machines that are on most corners and outside of most shops.

Nakano Broadway

Location: Nakano, Tokyo
Nearest Station: Nakano

Nakano Broadway Mall is the site of probably the biggest and best collection of toys and collectibles shops in Tokyo. The hotel is located on the second, third and fourth floors, it is absolutely filled with small shops specializing in all kinds of toys, collectibles old and new.

Some of my favorite shops in Nakano are Mandarake Robot and Robot. Mandarake has a lot of different shops here, each in a different field. The Cosplay Shop is a glance worth. You can even make your old collectables to trade it with cash.

It is easy to spend an entire day here, just by the many small shops, each packed to the brim with stuff.

Sunshine City

Location: Ikebukuro
Nearest station: Ikebukuro

Sunshine City is one of the best all shopping centers in Tokyo, which we often spend the whole day looking around. On the toy basket in front, there is a fairly large Toys R Us in the basement, which never fails to deliver. It is always a good selection of Western and Japanese-style toys. And some of the pre-school children's toys are so damn cute it's hard not to to obtain another Doreamon for your collection.

Outside Sunshine City, you will find a small number of shops specializing in manga, including Animate and K-Books.
