Have people wear only homemade cosplay for anime conventions?

I can not sew. I've never tried. I have also never been a Anime convention have been (but it sounds kind of fun, so what)'s. I want to do cosplay, but I'm just gonna buy the costume online ... Uh, as lame?

No! Not at all lame. In fact, you can, a cosplay in less than a month, making only those things for business or goodwill to find and it looks good, is a well-desired skill. Trust me. I'm cosplaying three years and am still friends with some of the most famous cosplayer in the area, which to me their tips. Buy at Business or goodwill, and they change. Or you can always shell out a couple hundred for a costume online, but that is risky.
