Who can / should I cosplay as? what is the name of the character? and from what anime character is from?

ok so my friend and I would like to become an anime go to convention. We both wanted to cosplay as someone, and a cosplay contest, but I have no idea who I should enter as cosplay. I want to cosplay as someone, that I am relatively close to me, because me and my friends will see in a competition, who do better in competition. i really dont want to wear a wig, but if you think I have to I will.
